Robot Restaurant

Robot_resto

Nuremburg, Germany, is home to the world’s first fully automated restaurant… and we’re not sure whether we like or loathe the idea. Its menus are all touch screen and your food arrives direct from the kitchen via enormous roller coaster type conveyor belts, descending from high above. Extremely efficient and cost effective, no doubt, but it sounds a bit like a warped scene from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to us.

More up our street is the sound of a new restaurant launching at the St Regis Hotel, New York, called Amour. Being the Regis, it’s all high-end, traditional luxury, with an extensive wine list and impeccable service to boot (of the human variety). But we’ve heard that they too are employing some hi-tech gadgetry – in the form of an electronic menu at the bar (…at the beautifully luxurious goatskin bar, should I say). It’ll trace your fingertip movements on a motion sensitive system when you select your drink. Not to worry, there will also be a barman and experienced sommelier on hand to serve you, or simply provide some old fashioned “bar chat”. And our favourite thing about it? If someone tasty catches your eye at the other end of the bar – simply press on a light and a drink will slide over to them. Space Age, with a dash of Bond.
